Faizpur
is a small municipal place on the outskirts of Yawal
Taluka of Jalgaon District. It is situated between the
Satpuda ranges and the Tapi River. The majority of the
population of this area consists of small landholders,
which is, however considered to be one of the
progressive areas of Maharashtra, particularly in the
field of agriculture and education. It was here that in
accordance with the mandate of Mahatma Gandhi, the
Indian National Congress for the first time, held its
Annual Session in rural areas, under the presidentship
of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1936. At the call of
Mahatma Gandhi, the middle class and the peasantry of
this country plunged into the struggle for independence
and completely altered its course. A large section of
peasantry from this area followed the Mahatma in revolt
against British rule and it was because of this large
number of freedom fighters and constructive workers who
actively participated in the struggle for independence,
that on out of the way small place like Faizpur get the
privilege of being the venue of the First Indian
National Congress in rural areas.
Faizpur has thus a great importance and significance in
the history of our freedom struggle. The memories of
this historical event are a great source of inspiration
to the people in their onward march. Motivated people
therefore entertained the idea
to setup monument of this historical moment which will
inspire the generations. Hence, on the sacred place, a
tower of inspiration (Prerana Stambha) has setup,
which would remind the coming generations “The India in
the dream of Gandhijee”.
It was, therefore, thought that an educational institute
which would serve as a radiating center of ideas and
thoughts that would contribute to the social, cultural
and economic uplift of the rural community should be
established. The Tapi Valley Education Society (TVES)
was, therefore, formed in 1960 and under the patronage
of this society; facilities for higher learning in Arts,
Science and Commerce have been created by starting a
College in 1961. The locations of TVES’s institutes are
situated at the central place of the two talukas namely
Yawal and Raver of Jalgaon District. The vision behind
the location was to facilitate education to the
inhabitant of both talukas.
This campus of higher learning is famous as "Nehru
Vidya Nagar". |
